Facebook is a social network operated by Facebook Inc. The name refers to the so-called Facebooks, with illustrations of students which are distributed at some US colleges.
Facebook allows you to create private profiles to represent your own person, from business pages to brand pages, as well as groups to a private discussion of common interests. The profiles can be networked through friendships, with an unlimited number of subscribers (similar to the followers on Twitter), but the maximum limit is set to 5,000 friends (direct connections). In addition, Facebook provides a messenger as well as a development platform for creating apps.
The social network was published by Dustin Moskovitz, Chris Hughes, Eduardo Saverin, and Mark Zuckerberg on February 4, 2004, and counts 1.44 billion members, who visit the site at least once a month. According to Alexa, Facebook is ranked second in the fourth quarter of 2015, and ranked third in the most visited sites in most countries, and around 1.5 billion active users worldwide in the third quarter of 2015. According to other representative surveys, Facebook has become increasingly important as a news channel. According to a study conducted in 2015 by the Reuters Institute of the University of Oxford, Facebook was used as a news channel across most countries.
